Living Water International (LWI) is a global non-governmental organization that exists to demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and to experience ?living water??the gospel of Jesus Christ?which alone satisfies the deepest thirst. Living Water in Africa is providing safe drinking water, Christian Witness, sanitation and health education to communities across Africa. Living Water International-Sierra Leone based in Newton and Lungi, has vacancies for an Operations Director, WaSH Specialist, Administrative Asst, Hygiene Trainers, Water Technicians and Driver.


OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Operations Manager will be responsible for:-

  • The Sierra Leone program in the area of program design, development, implementation, quality assurance and program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Focusing on the strategic plan for current projects and the creation of the strategic plan for future projects in alignment with the 5-year program plan.
  • Financial decision-making and budget analysis is necessary for this position.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Degree in WASH related field, Engineering, Business Administration; International Development, or equivalent;
  • At least five (5) years? experience in program design, strategy implementation, leadership and water, sanitation, and hygiene;
  • Program management experience in a developing country;
  • Program design experience for an established International NGO with fully fledged WASH programs;
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in managing teams;
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects and their effectiveness;
  • Up to date knowledge of best practices in both national and international WASH strategies.
  • The position will require extensive travel throughout Sierra Leone and some regional travel.

WaSH SPECIALIST

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Country Director in the area of WASH;
  • Provide technical advice to implementers of projects/programs;
  • Oversee training of community members in proper health, hygiene, and sanitation practice with emphasis on positive behavior change;
  • Through training empower and develop communities using community WASH based resources;
  • Conduct base-line surveys;
  • Review projects continuously through implementation compiling reports at regular intervals;
  • Compile final report for submission to donors and stakeholders;
  • Review projects not achieving the desired outcome, evaluate and identify corrective measures to be taken;
  • Present an action plan to correct past projects to the Country Director for review and planning to achieve desired outcome;
  • Adapt current training materials/manuals and develop new to be used within the local context.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:-

  • Degree/diploma in a WaSH related field/ engineering/health/international development or equivalent;
  • Must be SLTA/CLTS certified;
  • At least 4 years? experience in water, sanitation, health and hygiene;
  • Proficiency in monitoring, evaluation and research of WASH programs;
  • Proficient in reading writing and speaking English;
  • Communicating orally/Presentation skills;
  • Computer literate;
  • Proven report writing skills.
  • Valid driver?s license.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Key Responsibilities:?

  • Responsible for all reception duties;
  • Maintain office files;
  • Maintain records of decisions;
  • Research and assist the Country Director with the preparation of various documents and reports;
  • Assist in organizing events and seminars;
  • Prepare agendas/packages for meetings as required;
  • Deal with all the travel arrangements, meetings and event co-ordination;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Formal qualification ? Admin Diploma/Degree;
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs;
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality concerning staff information;
  • Communication: Good verbal and written skills, as well as a diplomatic approach when dealing with people;
  • Well structured and organized in coordinating and tracking tasks on-time;
  • 3 years experience.

HYGIENE TRAINER

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct? baseline surveys within targeted areas;
  • Assess data collected, analyze and develop? training material to address gaps;
  • Document a training plan, develop a field report of training interventions and update the WASH specialist in a timely manner;
  • Identify and train community leaders/school teachers in targeted communities to ensure the successful implementation of SLTS/hygiene and sanitation programs;
  • Ensure records, reports and logs of trainings undertaken are up to date and submitted to WASH Specialist;
  • Report on the effect of hygiene promotion and identify problems related to the trainings undertaken in targeted communities/schools;
  • Promote group participatory meetings to strengthen hygiene promotion in targeted areas;
  • Promote CLTS/PHAST approach in targeted communities;
  • Be familiar with LWI global minimum standards.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:-

  • Formal qualification ? Nursing/public/health diploma or degree;
  • SLTS/CLTS/PHAST certificate;
  • At least 3 years? experience in a similar role;
  • This person will report to the WASH Specialist/Software Mgr.;
  • Must be proficient in all MS programs;
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English;
  • Proficient in report writing;
  • Self-directed and reliable;
  • Valid driver?s license preferred.

WATER WELL TECHNICIAN

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete proper sampling and testing of water quality at designated site;
  • Service, maintain and disinfect pumping equipment and wells during initial construction, alterations, and maintenance activities;
  • Complete wells in accordance to LWI Minimum standards;
  • Knowledge and experience in well drilling, repair, troubleshooting and water sampling;
  • Ability to precisely indicate well diameter size, drawdowns, pumping levels, suction head friction loss and total dynamic head.
  • Understand basic geology, well siting, drilling system, well construction, well installation, annular space and sealing, pump installations, pumping tests, GPS, safety and well abandonment.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare monthly data reports, keeping up to date records and logs of well constructions;
  • Experience on well construction techniques, Spring Capping and gravity water schemes;
  • Encourage community mobilization;
  • Responsible for checking and verifying all goods dispatched to the field and keeping an inventory check;
  • Handle periodic stock taking and asset verification;
  • Perform any other tasks as delegated by immediate supervisor.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • High school diploma, college course preferable;
  • At least 3 years? experience in a similar role; good knowledge of WASH;
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English;
  • Ability to write reports and keep records;
  • Driver?s license preferred;
  • Must be physically able to undertake manual work ? able to lift up 50 pounds, bend, kneel,? climb stairs and stand for long periods;
  • Basic computer skills.

DRIVER

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake driving and messenger duties.
  • To check the office vehicles in accordance with the vehicles. If anything is found to be faulty, to take appropriate action by submitting the repair request.
  • To maintain transport records and documentation required by traffic law or local governing bodies, including records of renewals of motor vehicle documentation, (i.e. licenses, insurance and other relevant transport documents) that may be required from time to time.
  • To ensure that LWI-SL vehicles are kept clean at all times and to ensure they are properly and securely parked in the compound to maximize space for visitor?s vehicles.
  • Five years of clean driving experience.
