ST. LOUIS (FootballStL) -- Rex Ryan, the Jets head coach, believes that current Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer could one day follow in the footsteps of his father as an NFL head coach.
Schottenheimer is no stranger to Ryan either as the two coached together from 2009 until last season.? Schottenheimer is also no stranger to the Jets, in general, as he held the same position with the team since 2006.
?We accomplished a lot of things,? Ryan said.? ?We never accomplished the ultimate prize, but we were pretty close for two years in a row.? The thing I really appreciate about Brian is he has got an outstanding work ethic.? Like I say, one day this guy is going to be an excellent coach in this league as a head coach and follow his dad that way.?
His dad, Marty, was a coach for 26 seasons in the NFL with five different teams.? He posted a 200-126-1 record as a head coach, but has not coached since 2006.
Even after Schottenheimer?s resignation from the Jets last January, Ryan was quoted as saying ?I know that he will be a successful head coach one day - probably sooner than later."
Schottenheimer and Ryan will face each other this Sunday at noon.? The game will be televised on CBS.
