AUTOS: Porsche Launches Hyper Panamera

GTS version unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show upgrades performance for the four-door luxury sedan

Introduced with a roaring, tire-smoking video, Porsche spiced up its luxury-sedan lineup with the unveiling of a bright-red 2013 Panamera GTS, a more dialed-in performance version that the automaker says is race-track ready, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The GTS ? which stands for Gran Turismo Sport ? is a sport-tuned version of the current 4S powered by a 430-horsepower naturally aspirated V8, compared with 400-horses in the 4S, and 384 pound-feet of torque compared with 369 pound-feet, respectively. Zero-60 time shrinks to 4.3 seconds and top speed for the four-seater expands to 178 mph.

Standard equipment on the GTS includes all-wheel drive, the Sports Chrono Package and Porsche Active Suspension Management. The 19-inch alloy wheels are shod with fat 255/45 performance tires.

The interior gets upgraded with sport bucket seats, a SportDesign steering wheel and exclusive leather and Alcantara trim.

Pricing has not yet been announced.

Porsche introduced the new 911 Carrera and Carrera S to Los Angeles after the Panamera presentation. The latest 911 was previously unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and debuted in the U.S. at the recent Porsche Rennsport Reunion.
